It all started in 1998 when Stephen Porter tended his first pumpkin patch. Watching families delight in taking home his pumpkins for carving jack-o-lanterns and baking holiday pies ignited a spark. By the time that first season ended, Stephen realized a growing passion for farming.
Today, Porter Farms Produce and Nursery in Kinston grows 75 acres of produce and has 400 acres in grain production.
A 1994 graduate of NCSU, Stephen Porter opened his first roadside produce stand with wife Jamie in 2005. Our farm and family has grown a lot since those early days but our picked-fresh philosophy remains unchanged.
Porter Farms wants visitors to our farm to experience our delicious fruits and vegetables the same way we do: from farm to table the same day it is picked. As Stephen likes to say, "Every meal is a feast at Porter Farms."
Don’t be surprised to see our entire family when you stop by our market. Jamie and the family’s three children cheerfully help out customers at our roadside stands. Seeing our customers smile fills our hearts with joy.
